Customer Review: You just thought you knew what rice tasted like !
I have became a brown rice and steel cut oatmeal freak since purchasing this cooker! Perfectly cooked every time and easy cleanup. Be aware: *3/4 U.S. cup = 1 rice cooker cup: *This cooker has a maximum of 2 cups (1.5 cups U.S.) raw brown rice. For more than 2 people, it might not be enough except for a side dish. *It will cook 3 cups of raw white rice. *For steel cut oatmeal, cooking 3/4 cup raw, cooks fine for 2 medium servings. Cooking 1 cup, the oatmeal will rise to touch the vent top, but it cleans up easily. Anymore than one cup and am afraid it may boil over into the steam vents. I always pushed rice to the side of my plate until I tasted brown rice a year ago and ordered a $30 cooker from Amazon. Since then, I have eaten more rice in the past year than I have in the past 50 years. I noticed the brown rice grains in my cheapo cooker were sticky, cracked and exploded and decided to take a chance on this very fine cooker to see what the difference was. By varying the amount of water just a very little bit, you can make a rice that is firm or soft and have it come out the same every single time, just the way you like it. Use the markings on the inside of the pot as a general guide only and vary the water level to your own preference. Because of the soak and rest cycle in the machines program, it takes about 90 minutes to cook brown rice. Steel cut oatmeal is about 50 minutes. Both worth the little extra time. My wife objected to this purchase as just another gadget cluttering up the kitchen cabinet. Now she has oatmeal 3-4 times a week instead of maybe twice a year and even used some left over rice to make stir fired rice w/egg for breakfast and became hooked. If the size is right, go for it.
Customer Review: Couldn't be happier
I first bought a cheap-O cooker from Target and it was junk. Burned the first batch of rice. Dropped it in the recycle bin and started my research and even thought the price was far more than what I had paid for the cheap-O from Target, I absolutely do not regret it. Perfect brown rice ever time... Well worth the price.
